Overview

The Director of Information Technology is a pivotal leadership role responsible for spearheading the development and implementation of information technology initiatives aligned with the organization's vision and strategic objectives. This individual will oversee the planning, deployment, and management of enterprise IT systems to optimize business operations, enhance service quality, and drive business development. A strategic mindset, strong leadership capabilities, and extensive IT expertise are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Support strategic and operational governance as part of the IT leadership team.
  • Assist in driving IT strategic planning to support business goals, fostering innovation and managing IT initiatives.
  • Help establish IT departmental goals, objectives, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate on identifying cost-effective IT investment opportunities and resource allocation.
  • Assist in assessing and communicating risks associated with IT investments.
  • Contribute to the management and control of the annual IT operating and capital budgets.
  • Aid in the development of business case justifications and cost-benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Support in devising and implementing a comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plan.

Operational Management

  • Act as a key liaison, coordinating consultations with stakeholders to shape business and system requirements for groundbreaking technology implementations.
  • Take charge in prioritizing, and controlling projects related to the development, deployment, and installation of significant information systems, moving the team towards the organization's IT goals.
  • Review and manage hardware and software contracts, leveraging master agreements to maximize business value.
  • Collaborate on defining and communicating decisive plans, policies, and standards for the organization's IT system acquisitions, implementations, and operations.
  • Ensure seamless delivery and performance of IT services by supervising service agreements with end-users.
  • Stay updated with IT industry trends and technologies, sharing insights on competitive or financial impact with key organizational executives and management.
  • Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, like government bodies, vendors, and customers.
  • Play a critical role in IT personnel management - from hiring and developing, to retaining and organizing, all in line with corporate budgetary goals and personnel policies.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (equivalent combination of education and experience in IT may be considered).
  • Minimum of 10 years of IT experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Excellent understanding of IT infrastructure, software development, and IT security.
  • Ability to align strategic goals and objectives with company decisions.
  • Experience in assisting with strategic planning and execution.
  • Considerable knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations.
  • Substantial exposure to data processing, hardware platforms, software development/SDLC, and database systems.
  • Good understanding of API, middleware and integration capabilities.
  • Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management.
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business problems through the lens of the company’s goals and objectives..
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.

This role is considered a stepping stone to the Senior Director of IT role. The candidate will assist the current Senior Director and gradually take over responsibilities, ensuring a consistent and smooth transition when the time comes for the Senior Director to step down.
